Welcome to Hawaii Loa Ridge! Situated on the south shore of Oahu, Hawaii Loa Ridge is a gated community just 15 minutes east of Waikiki. It is sandwiched between Aina Haina and Niu Valley at the base of the Ko’olau Mountains. Starting at sea level, the entire neighborhood climbs to about 1,000 feet above at the top of the ridge.
Development of “the Ridge” was a long and arduous process with several attempting to build homes on the ridge starting back in the 1970s. It wasn’t until the 1980s that it actually became a neighborhood as access became easier and homes were built.
The residents who live in Hawaii Loa long for privacy and the exclusivity of living in a gated community. Additionally, the 500+ homes showcase the most unbelievable views of the Pacific Ocean and the eastern side of Oahu as well as other perks such as 24-hour mobile security and guard gate at the entrance to the neighborhood.
Living in Hawaii Loa Ridge means having lots of privacy. As part of the Honolulu metro area, this is one of the most exclusive neighborhoods and maintains that honor with its grand presence and environment. The most affluent people in the area often choose to move to Hawaii Loa to be away from everything and enjoy the solitude of living on the Ridge.
The location of Hawaii Loa Ridge is central in that it is fairly close to everything in surrounding areas. For instance, it is only about a 10 to 15-minute drive to one of the area grocery stores – Safeway in Hawaii Kai, Foodland Farms in Aina Haina, and even Whole Foods in Waialae – Kahala. The same goes for shopping as Ala Moana Center is less than 20 minutes away; the Koko Marina Center and Hawaii Kai Town Center are about a 15-minute drive; and, Kahala Mall is only about 10 minutes. On top of this, it is easy to explore as well. Downtown Honolulu is about 20 minutes away for those who work there or like to go into the city for dinner, shows and other events.
As for restaurants, there are several less than 10 minutes away in the Aina Haina and Nui Valley Shopping Centers. The nice part is that residents can choose what kind of cuisine including French at Le Bistro in Niu Valley, Pieology Pizzeria at Aina Haina, or everyone’s favorite bakery, La Tour Bakery and Café.
Another perk of living in Hawaii Loa Ridge is the outdoor activities all around the neighborhood. The Hawaii Loa Ridge Trail runs from the base of the ridge up to the top. It winds through wooded areas that offer beautiful tree-lined canopies and up dirt trails to the top.
At the base of Puukena Drive is the Kawaikui Beach Park. This is a small community park that has a nice grassy area for kids to run and play. There is a small beach area with sand but the water is not very popular for swimming although surfers often enter here to get to their favorite spots. This park is a great place for a family picnic, enjoying the beach, fishing or just getting outside to enjoy the sunshine.
As one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Honolulu, Hawaii Loa Ridge is every bit its description. Winding around the turns on the road up the ridge, many of the homes are situated off the road behind private gates and are palatial. No matter the size, all of them have two things in common: they cost over $1 million and boast the most spectacular views ever. List prices typically start somewhere around $1.5 million and can top $20 million with the average somewhere around $2.5-$3 million.
Most of the homes fall between the 3,000 and 5,000 square foot range in terms of size with a few either smaller or larger. They have unique architectural styles that vary from being more traditional or Mediterranean in design to being very contemporary with clean and simple lines. Inside each home showcases fabulous chef kitchens with high-end appliances as well as large living areas and multiple bedrooms to accommodate large families. On top of this, most homes have private pools that overlook the ridges.
Hawaii Loa Ridge is perfectly maintained thanks to the home owners’ association that insists on its well-defined guidelines to which each home owner must adhere as well as proper maintenance in the public areas. This ensures that the entire community keeps its appeal along with home values.
At the top of the Ridge sits the most exclusive section within Hawaii Loa Ridge – The Pointe. This is an enclave of about 40 homes and a very private club house with tennis courts. While the neighborhood is pretty well filled, there are about handful of vacant lots on which to build with list prices starting in the millions.
When deciding to relocate to Oahu, more specifically, Honolulu, many affluent professional people look at Hawaii Loa Ridge. Although the privacy is a big draw, the low crime rate and excellent schools also bring them here.
The area public schools around Hawaii Loa Ridge are top rated with Aina Haina Elementary, Niu Valley Middle School and Kalani High School being the closest schools. Many parents choose to send their children to private school in Honolulu as there are many from which to choose.
Crime is something that is almost nonexistent in Hawaii Loa Ridge. Much of that is due to the fact that the entire neighborhood is guard-gated and has a roaming security guard continuously checking out the neighborhood. On top of that, many people living there also have their own privacy gates at the edge of their driveway.
Hawaii Loa Ridge is absolutely the perfect neighborhood for those who want the most privacy and security along with having a grand and beautiful home.
