Lihue is the second largest town and one of the most important cities in the island of Kauai. It is the centre for transportation and education on the island. The Lihue Airport serves as a connecting airport between the small towns on the island and other Hawaiian towns and American states. Lihue is the centre for education in the island of Kauai. The Kauai Community College, which is part of University of Hawaii, is located in this city. It is served by the Hawaii Department of Education. There are two kindergarten schools till Grade 5 elementary schools and one each of secondary and high school that provide quality education. Island School, a private school up to Grade 12, is also located in Lihue.


The people of Lihue have a high standard of living and lead fast-paced but comfortable lives. The crime rates are fairly low. Transportation and infrastructure facilities are excellent.
