Located in the heart of Niu Valley in East Honolulu, Niu Middle School is a public, co-educational school which offers grades 7 to 8. It currently serves more than 400 students from Hawaii Kai, Aina Haina, and Wailupe Valley.
Established in 1955, it continues to meet its objective of providing academic excellence as shown in its high academic achievement. Its curriculum features strong academic core, has an advisory program, and offers interdisciplinary teams. Moreover, it has varied elective programs in leadership, physical education, fine arts, and educational technology.
The school aims to produce graduates who are self-directed learners, community contributors, effective and ethical users of a variety of technologies, complex thinkers, effective communicators, and quality producers.
Average daily student attendance is above the state standard of 95%. Less than 10% of student population undergoes Special Education programs, while less than 5% comprises students with limited English proficiency.
Teachers count to more than 30, 80% of which are fully licensed. This will ensure that quality support system is provided to the studentry. School faculty members undergo trainings in specified areas. Even staff members are provided with trainings too.
It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges up to 2010.
