There are twin beaches located on the shores of Laie Maloo Bay. Pounders Beach is one of them, and Kokololio the other. The nearly 100 feet wide and 2000 feet long Pounders beach is fronted by sandbars that seem shallow but drop abruptly to over head depths at the surf line. The moderate foreshore is steep, this is the result of the pounding surf all thru the year. Here you will find lot's of low dunes at the backshore. The backshore is covered by beautiful ironwood trees and other vegetation. The south side of the beach faces the beach park and the north end faces private beach homes. There is parking at the Kolao Stream, as well as portable restrooms available.
Ponders Beach in Laie
Pounders Beach itself is a beautiful and breathtaking half moon of sandy white beach, and is one of the more popular bodyboard and bodysurfing beaches. It is also home to the Brigham Young University-Hawaii Campus. It was renamed in 1974. Before that it was know as the Church College of Hawaii. All year round you will find a high surf at Pounders Beach. The Laie Maloo bay is not blocked, and has wide reefs all along its side. There is no lifeguard post stationed at this beach. If you are looking to travel to one of Hawaii's great beaches you may want to stay in one of the many Oahu vacation rentals while you are visiting.
